A CIGARETTE was behind a 'false' alarm which meant part of a hospital had to be cleared as firefighters attended to investigate the cause.
Photos were shared of a large crowd outside the main entrance to Worcester hospital yesterday afternoon.
We can now reveal more details about why firefighters were at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said fire engines attended just before 5pm.
"This was a false alarm caused by smoking materials," he said.
We have also approached Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for a comment.
We reported yesterday how a substantial group of people were gathered outside the main entrance of the hospital in Charles Hastings Way, including people in wheelchairs.
