A retro gaming bar has set a date for the opening of its new venue in Worcester.

Retroids Acade Bar is moving from its home in New Street to a new, bigger location in College Street.

Owner David Newey said a date has finally been set in stone and the new venue will open on Saturday, December 2.

“We’re super excited,” he said. “This is something we’ve been working on for two-and-a-half years.

“We were going to move to another venue but that fell through so we got straight back on it and found the unit in College Street.”

Mr Newey said the venue is “way bigger” than the bar in New Street, which is filled with classic arcade and retro gaming machines and offers a range of craft beers and ciders.

“Where we are now, it can hold 30 people maximum and it feels really busy at times,” he said.

“It’ll be great just to have more space - there’ll be more games, more drinks and a bigger range of cocktails.”

And while Retroids gets ready to settle into a new home just off Cathedral Square, its current home isn’t being forgotten.

“We’re keeping New Street as a private hire venue,” said Mr Newey. “General admissions will be in College Street, but people will be able to hire New Street, which will still be full of games and still have a bar.

“It means we’ll be able to do that seven days a week rather than Sunday to Thursday as we do now.

“We have parties of all ages - kids, adults, we have some brilliant parties, they are so much fun.”

In May, the retro gaming bar submitted a planning application to the council outlining their plans.

The proposed opening hours were 10am to 7pm between Monday and Wednesday, 10am to midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 5pm every Sunday.

The move to College Street comes after plans to open in Pump Street fell through at the last minute last year.

Retroids revealed plans to move into one of the several empty units in Pump Street, and despite the move receiving the backing of Worcester City Council, it later fell apart because of ‘reasons beyond their control'.
