A HERON has been pictured mid-flight along the banks of the River Severn in Worcester.

The pictures were submitted to the Worcester News Camera Club by Paul Harding and Roger Mason on Thursday, November 16.

According to the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, these grey-backed birds can be easily recognised, with long legs, a long, white neck, bright yellow bill and a black eye stripe.

Herons can be found throughout town and countryside, on canals, ponds, lakes and rivers across the UK.

Herons are often seen standing as still as a statue on their long thin legs in shallow waters of ponds and lakes patiently waiting for their next meal to swim by.
