ONE of the "most sought after" 50p coins has been sold by a Worcestershire eBayer for a considerable sum.
An eBay seller has made more than a few quid after selling the rare Kew Gardens design for more than its face value.
They are among many people on the selling site trying to sell a 50ps for a high price.
The Kew Gardens coin was released in 2009 and, according to The Royal Mint, is one of the most sought-after 50p coins.
The seller from Kidderminster sold the coin for £149 - far more than its face value price.
The coin's condition was described as "circulated" and the lucky buyer had free postage.
The Royal Mint described the coin as: "The rare 50p collectors go crazy for.
"The sheer variety has sparked a collecting craze, but of all the 50p coins, the Kew Gardens 50p is arguably the most sought-after.
"Nothing gets people excited quite like this original 2009 design.
"Just 210,000 were released into circulation, and with almost all of them in private hands, the chances of coming across one in your change are slim."
Other Kew Gardens coins on the site were going for as high as £600, but the majority were being sold at the £150 mark.
