A fire service crew were attacked with fireworks last night (Sunday, November 5) as they tried to put out a bonfire in Kidderminster.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) crew from Wyre Forest Fire Station were called to an open fire at 8.29pm on Tennyson Way.
The fire, which has been described as an “unofficial bonfire”, was extinguished by the crew at the scene.
During the incident, police had to be called after fireworks were being aimed at the crew and exploding six to seven metres away from them.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the group commander for HWFRS, Simon Cusack, said: “I’m really disappointed that one of our fire crews was attacked with fireworks and rockets this evening whilst extinguishing a fire.
“CCTV is now on all of our fire engines to help protect our staff from actions such as this.”
The fire crews retreated until police were in attendance with the area then dampened down to prevent re-ignition.
There were no casualties and the incident was marked as pending closure at 9.01pm.
