A WHITE van crashed through metal safety railings and flipped onto its side during a dramatic crash near a busy roundabout.

The van left the road and ploughed through the metal railings which were buckled and crushed on impact and left the van on its side buried in vegetation just off the Whittington roundabout.

The van has now been removed from the scene, leaving a gaping hole in the metal safety barrier which was being inspected by a Worcestershire County Council worker.

We can now reveal what happened to the diver after the Whittington van crash.

Police officers, fire crews and paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene of the crash where the A44 Whittington Road meets the A4440 Swinesherd Way at around 9.30am today (Friday).

The crash caused some delays as the left lane on the approach to the roundabout from Whittington Road was coned off and a cordon was placed across the path.

A similar crash happened at the same spot in December last year when a blue Renault was left blocking the path following a crash on the A4440.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said of the crash on Friday: "We were called at 9.30am to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of the A44 and the A4440 in Whittington near Worcester.

"An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a van had come off the road and ended up on its side.

"The driver, a woman, was already out of the vehicle on arrival and was treated by ambulance staff for minor injuries.

"She did not wish to go to hospital and so was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a call around 9.30am with a report of a car colliding with the railings on the A44.

"Officers attended the incident to assist with traffic management whilst other emergency services attended the damaged vehicle. The car was recovered and the road reopened.

The crash follows another one nearby on Wednesday when a BMW crashed head-on into a lamppost near the County Hall roundabout.
