A MAN has been taken to hospital following a house fire with firefighters told people were inside the property.

Police, fire engines and ambulance were called to the fire in Wych Elm Close this afternoon (October 9).

A man was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

It is the third blaze in the small road, off London Road, within months.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Wych Elm Close at 1.02pm.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered one male patient who was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital."

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Worcester Fire Station were called at the same time to a report of a fire with persons reported inside the home.

A spokesperson said: "A fire was discovered on the first floor of a detached house and this was fought using two hose reel jets by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

"Two further firefighters, also in breathing apparatus, carried out damping down and turning over. The utilities were isolated.

"All persons were accounted for and one adult male was handed over to the care of the ambulance service."

At 2pm there were two fire engines, an ambulance, an ambulance car, a police van and two police cars.

Due to the narrowness of the road some of the vehicles couldn't get in and parked on London Road.

The ambulance and the ambulance car left at 2.05pm, before the police left the scene at 2.10pm.

At around 2.30pm there was one fire engine left, with a pump running into the property.

The front door and windows were open at the property which had been cordoned off.

It is the third time emergency services have attended the road to deal with a fire within weeks.

On July 21, firefighters went out in the early hours to put out a fire in a single-storey wooden outbuilding.

On that occasion, one man was treated by paramedics at the scene.

And on September 26 a man managed to escape a blaze in a bedroom of a home. He was assessed at the scene by paramedics before being discharged.
