A 56-YEAR-OLD man who boarded a train from Worcester Foregate Street without a rail ticket will now have to pay a fine.
Tony Charles was found guilty of the offence of travelling on the railway without paying a fare when his case was heard in his absence at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Martin Calvert, prosecuting, said Charles was on a Great Western Railway service travelling to Bristol Temple Meads when he was asked to produce a ticket.
The court heard Charles replied he was willing to pay for one but, after not buying a ticket, his details were taken.
"Correspondence was sent, we have had no payment," the prosecutor said.
Charles, of Seymour Road, Bristol, was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £9.60.
Charles was ordered to pay costs of £180 and £88 victim surcharge.
He must pay the £497.60 total within 28 days.
The case was heard at the court on Friday, (September 29).
