A RAIL fare dodger caught on the Worcestershire rail network now has to pay nearly £500 after not buying a £9.10 train ticket.
Ashkan Mohammed was asked for a ticket by an inspector on a train to Worcester Shrub Hill on February 2.
Martin Calvert, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said the 24-year-old did not provide one so was asked for his details.
After correspondence was sent out to him the prosecutor said Great Western Railway heard nothing and there had been no payment.
The 24-year-old, of Brook Street, Smethwick, was fined £220 and ordered to pay the £9.10 compensation - the cost of the ticket.
Mohammed, who was not present in the court for the hearing, also was told to pay £180 costs and £88 victim surcharge.
Chairman of the magistrates bench, Chris Mitchell, said the £497.10 total was to be paid within 28 days.
The case was heard at the court on Friday, (September 29).
