A HOUSE fire has broken out in a quiet city close with firefighters told a man was trapped inside.

The man managed to escape the blaze in a bedroom of the home in Wych Elm Close, off London Road.

Police, fire crews and ambulances remain in the road as the incident is ongoing.

The man has been checked over by paramedics and discharged.

Wych Elm Close remains blocked off by emergency vehicles.

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) said it sent a crew from Worcester Fire Station.

"[We were] called at 3.10pm on 26 September to a fire with persons reported at Wych Elm Close, Worcester.

"A small fire in the bedroom of a two-storey house was fought by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using one hosereel jet.

"There were no casualties and all persons were accounted for.

"Ambulance and police also attended. The crew remains at the scene."

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said officers are currently supporting HWFRS with a property that is on fire on Wych Elm Close in Worcester.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to an address in Wychelm Close in Worcester at just after 2.00pm this afternoon.

"An ambulance and a paramedic officer were dispatched to the scene.  One man was assessed but was discharged."
