A 26-YEAR-OLD man who sent threats to his former partner and threatened to kick her door down will now do unpaid work.
Joshua Hughes, of Kirkby Gardens, Worcester, had also threatened violence on a day in which, the court heard, he had "spectacularly" lost his good character.
Hughes admitted threat to damage, destroy property, sending by public communication network an offensive/menacing message, obstructing a constable, using motor vehicle on a road, using motor vehicle without insurance and arrest by a constable for breaking/likely to break bail conditions - duty to surrender into the custody of a court.
Melanie Winterflood, prosecuting, said Hughes had been in a relationship with his former partner and they had a child before separating in October 2022.
The prosecutor said the victim sent a message to the defendant by mistake in May this year, which led to Hughes asking a lot of questions after whether she was in a new relationship.
Miss Winterflood said the victim had said she had moved on, which led to Hughes being "irate" and sending unpleasant messages in May.
In one he said: "You have got what's coming to you. Trust me that's not a threat."
The prosecutor said: "The messages made her feel unsafe in her home.
"She was scared to go out."
The prosecutor explained Hughes had committed the threat to destroy offence by telling the victim’s mum he would kick the door if the victim didn’t let him in
On June 6 Hughes went to the victim's home after he tried to pick up his child from nursery, discovering they weren't there as they were unwell, and was angry as no one had told him.
While at the property the victim let Hughes see the child but at one point he told her to shut up or he would punch her in the face.
Hughes was later arrested in Hylton Road, but had threatened to an officer he would knock his glasses off.
After arrest it emerged he had been driving a Land Rover with no insurance or MOT.
Miss Winteflood added Hughes had no previous convictions prior to losing his good character in a “quite remarkable way”.
Hughes, who defended himself, said: “I have just got to take my punishment, what I have to do I have to do.”
Magistrates gave Hughes a 12 month community order requiring him to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
Hughes was fined £845 and told to pay £114 victim surcharge and £185 costs – a total of £1,044.
The defendant was also given a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim or going to her property.
The case was heard at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, (September 21).
