A HIDDEN gem cafe is to make the full move to opening on weekends after a successful trial.

Lakeview Café, at County Hall in Worcester was inundated with customers after trialling opening on a Saturday.

Despite "nobody knowing it was here", staff were kept busy throughout the day - and now they need more helping hands.

Jon Whittle, operations manager of the café, decided to test the waters after it saw numbers dwindle as staff continued to work from home since the pandemic.

The cafe, tucked away in Worcester Woods, held the trial on  Saturday, September 16.

And bosses, who were impressed with how it went, have now committed to making Saturday openings a permanent fixture.

Head chef Dawn Powell said: "It went really well.

"The public came and supported us."

She described the day as amazing which had convinced them to make it a regular thing.

Bosses are currently advertising for new staff and have been interviewing this week.

The chef explained as soon as they could ensure they had four staff for the shift they would announce the first date of opening.

"The feedback is amazing from our regulars.

"It is a lovely location, and parking is free."

Before the trial, Jon Whittle, operations manager of the café, told us they had exciting plans for the future of the cafe.

"What is really important for us as well is to show that we are tied into the local community as a business," he said.

"Our steaks will be provided by The Butcheress, a brilliant local butcher, and in the future we are exploring the idea of hosting mini market events which will encourage people to shop for local produce."

Lakeview Cafe has an enviable 4.8 stars on Google Reviews with one customer praising the "amazing food and fantastic value for money".

Another diner said: "Great find at the end of our walk through the woods. Really friendly and helpful staff. Brilliant food. The salad bar is amazing. Every dish on there bursting with flavour. Shout out to the chef and all the staff."
