AN event which will celebrate strength and diversity in the community is set to take place this weekend.

Worcester Mela will be hosting West Midlands Mayor's Community Weekend and will put on an array of entertainment.

The group will be at the Commandery Gardens in Sidbury on Sunday (September 10) and will be performing dance routines, hosting arts and crafts sessions, playing music and reading poetry.

The event will coincide with The Commandery's heritage open day, which means attendees will also be able to access the museum and the event for free.

Visitors are allowed to bring their own picnics, and community organisations are invited to attend with a stall.

Organisations will need to get in touch with Worcester Mela as soon as possible if they would like a stall.

Worcester Mela is an organisation which aims to unite the city through culture, colour and creativity.

A spokesperson for Worcester Mela said: "We are grateful to Worcestershire Museums for working on this project with us and opening up The Commandery Gardens.

"We would also like to thank the West Midlands Mayor and Worcestershire Ambassadors who have funded this event.

"If any community groups or organisations wish to get involved, please contact us asap."
