A new 24-hour coffee drive-thru is set to be built next to a busy road near Pershore after plans were backed by the council.
The move by coffee giant Starbucks will see a new drive-thru open at the Pinvin Service Station off A44 in Pinvin near Pershore.
The plan by Euro Garages was backed by Wychavon District Council despite concerns the new drive-thru would add to litter and pollution and “clog” the roads.
Approving the new drive-thru, the council’s planners said the new Starbucks would mostly be used by those driving along the A44 – rather than creating more journeys for people wanting to get coffee – and its location on the busy main road meant it would not detract people from visiting and shopping in Pershore.

One objector, Timothy Carter of Worcester Road in Wyre Piddle, had said the new service station had resulted in more litter being dropped – making the entrance to the village an “eyesore.”
“The present petrol filling station has been a cause of considerable rubbish being thrown out of car windows, littering the adjoining roads,” he said. “Little attempt is made by the garage owners to gather up waste which is blown around the surrounding area.
“This makes the approach roads to Wyre Piddle village an eyesore.”
Pinvin Parish Council objected to the work from the beginning saying an out-of-town drive-thru was ‘against the whole ethos of reducing climate change.’
“Creating an out-of-town retail area would increase traffic, increase pollution from cars sitting with engines on waiting for service, especially in winter when it is cold, and the engines are kept running,” the objection said.

“If the site became popular then the road network would get clogged with waiting customers.
“The whole ethos of reducing climate change is to reduce car usage and fuel usage and driving to an out-of-town drive-thru coffee shop is not helping.”
The service station itself proved controversial when plans were discussed in 2019 with councillors split over whether to give the move the green light.
The application was eventually approved with planning chair Cllr David Wilkinson using his deciding vote to tip the scales in favour of the new petrol station.
