A RARE five-star rated bore is due to take place later this month with surfers, kayakers and photographers all hoping to catch a glimpse of the natural spectacle.
The unique wave on Saturday, September 30 is due to reach heights of 10.3 metres from between 8.42pm to 10.17pm.
It is the first time in two years that a Severn Bore wave has received the big five-star rating.
The bore, a large surge wave, is formed in the estuary of the River Severn, where the tidal range is the second highest in the world.
It is caused when the incoming tide is funnelled into an increasingly narrow channel against the current of the river and ranges from one-star up to five-stars.
The best places to watch the bore are at Minsterworth, Stonebench and Over Bridge, before the river splits into two.
But the early stages of the bore can also be seen at Epney, Newnham and Fretherne.
