SEVERAL youths were found in a derelict city pub after reports of debris being thrown onto the road from within.

Police found the group of youths inside the now derelict Crown and Anchor Pub on Hylton Road on Sunday, August 20.

A cyclist called the police after shards of glass came falling from the pub as they were travelling past.

The cyclist, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "As I was passing The Crown and Anchor pub there was a loud bang which was followed by glass falling on the road.

"I stopped about 20 metres further up the road and heard more bangs. I then saw a lump of masonry come out followed by another which smashed a window and hit a car on the other side of the road.

"This left a fair amount of glass in the road so I called the police at about 3.40pm, and shortly after three cars attended.

"Later on, it looked like the police had cleared the glass out of the road, but not the footpaths, or the debris that had hit the car. There was also lots of broken glass on Little Holywell Hill."

Police said several youths were stopped and searched at the derelict pub following the call.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers received reports of someone throwing debris from the derelict Crown and Anchor pub on Hylton Road, Worcester at 3.45pm on Sunday, August 20.

“We attended and located several youths - male and female - within the premises. All were stop-searched, but nothing was found, so they were moved on.

“We intend to send those involved an ASB letter. No damage was caused to vehicles, and we are not aware of anyone being injured.”

The Crown and Anchor pub has been closed in Worcester for several years.

In June, new proposals were put forward which could see the pub revived as flats.

Worcester City Council’s planning committee approved the work, despite receiving several complaints from residents that building more flats on the former pub site would turn an already terrible parking situation even worse.
