THE 'clearest ever' photo of a big prowling the British countryside has been uncovered - but could it be as large as the infamous Black Panther long claimed to be in the Worcestershire wilds?

We reported earlier this year that Jason Neville said he saw the infamous Pershore panther on Boxing Day last year.

He was so concerned about it prowling on the wetlands in Pershore he called the police.

Mr Neville told the BBC: "The pathway is maybe 7ft - 8ft wide and as it turned it virtually covered the entire pathway.

"Originally when I first saw it I thought it was a dog.

"But I was that close, you couldn't be mistaken."

Mr Neville said he also saw what were the remains of a "huge" carcass which he thought was probably a goose, on the back pitch of Pershore Town football pitch.

"It has no innards, so it had been eaten in its entirety, just the wings left.

"A fox was trying to drag the carcass off, but it couldn't drag it.

"I didn't put two-and-two together until a week later until I saw the Pershore panther."

And in 2017 pensioner David Wherton said he had seen a “muscular” cat-like creature while walking home from the shops.

Documentary makers claim the pictures that have been discovered of a large muscular black cat lying in long grass in Smallthorne, Staffordshire.

Experts say if genuine it is ''probably the best photo of a British big cat that exists''.

The photo was accompanied by a handwritten note dated March 17 - but it is unclear is which year it was taken.

The image is featured as one of several potential pieces of evidence supporting the existence of such cats in the British countryside.

They form part of a new award-winning documentary ‘Panthera Britannia Declassified’ released on Amazon Prime by Dragonfly Films.

The programme will be broadcast on television in the UK later this year as part of a special week of programming on Blaze.

We reported on sightings in 2016.
