A 21-YEAR-OLD beautician whose business was only set up a few weeks ago has been named a finalist in a national beauty award.

Start-up Nails by Lucy has been shortlisted in the prestigious UK Hair and Beauty Awards (HBA).

The business started up earlier this year after Lucy Robinson got her qualifications to become a nail technician six months ago.

Miss Robinson said: "My mum was a nail practitioner, we used to live in Cyprus.

"She made a business out of it. She decided to end it, but she still had the equipment.

"I got interested in nails, and decided to start up my own business."

The Martley resident is running the home-based nail salon from her friend's home in Bromyard Road after she offered the location.

And despite the business only being up and running for a few weeks Miss Robinson said she was "shocked" to hear she had been shortlisted in the Best New Talent and Best Gel Nails categories of the HBA awards.

Miss Robinson said: "I'm so happy and thankful for everyone’s support.

"I’m still in disbelief that I have been chosen for not one but two categories.

"I call the awards the Grammys for healthy and beauty.

"The awards will have a massive ceremony in Birmingham with a red carpet and Atomic Kitten performing - me and mum will be going."

Miss Robinson has been running the business through her Nails by Lucy Facebook page and on Instagram, @_nailsbylucy__.

Miss Robinson said she was not expecting to win, but said she would be over the moon if she did taste success on the big night.

"It is a big thing, but I'm just glad they have taken a chance on me," she said.

"I’ve had my ups and downs but I never gave up and I’m glad I didn’t.

"At the moment I'm trying to build my client base.

"I look forward to meeting new people and seeing what the future holds for Nails by Lucy."
