A planning application asking for permission to build 130 new homes in a village has been put forward.

Lioncourt Homes revealed its plans to build the new estate in Fernhill Heath earlier this year and has now submitted a planning application to Wychavon District Council.

The mix of homes and bungalows would be built on fields on the corner of Dilmore Lane and Suffolk Way in Fernhill Heath.

A plan to build 42 homes on land on the opposite side of the village’s Dilmore Lane near Danes Green was put forward by housing developer William Davis Homes at the end of 2021 but council planners have not yet made a decision.

More than 120 objections were made against the plan by villagers before consultation closed in May.

The deadline for villagers to have their say was extended after William Davis changed the layout of the new estate following talks with the council.

A statement included with the application said: “The development here will cater for a range of house types and sizes for a variety of community needs, including adaptable homes and some self-build plots to allow people to build their own home - it will also provide much needed affordable housing at a time when housing affordability is challenging for many, including First Homes for new first time purchasers.

“Fernhill Heath is a sustainable location for the scale of development proposed. It has successfully accommodated some additional housing developments in the recent past and this is a suitable site, within walking distance of local shops and services, as well as public transport.”

The village has seen a number of new homes built in the last few years with Taylor Wimpey building 120 homes off Dilmore Lane – opposite the proposed site for 130 new homes – after receiving planning permission in 2015.
