WORCESTER Cathedral is trialling becoming a dog-friendly venue from next week.
As of Monday, July 17, dogs will be welcomed at the city landmark both on the grounds and inside the building during visiting hours.
The Cathedral is asking visitors to help it to consider whether this becomes permanent by following its new guidelines.
Visitors are reminded that other than assistance dogs, no dogs will be allowed on tours to the crypt, inside the shop or inside the Cloister Cafe.

However, dogs can still join their owners for a coffee or lunch at the external seating located in the Cloister or the Chapter House, and treats can be found on sale in the cafe or the shop.
Ensuring that dogs do not approach other visitors and children, and keeping dogs on a short lead is also part of the new guidance, alongside ensuring that you are clearing up dog faeces and informing a staff member.
As the Cathedral is a place of worship, owners are asked to take dogs outside if they begin to bark, and at events, dogs will not be permitted.
Canon Stephen Edwards, the vice-dean of Worcester, said: “We’ve listened to our visitors’ feedback and have decided to trial a period throughout the summer where dogs are welcome inside the Cathedral for visiting.
“We cannot wait to welcome our four-legged friends into the Cathedral. Dogs are so important to so many of our visitors and bring much love and joy to their families.
"So, we felt it was only right that we welcome them into the Cathedral, where we hope our visitors will be able to enjoy the beauty of the building with their canine companions.”

Cathedral staff reserve the right to refuse entry for a pet or ask the owner to take their pet outside if the guidance isn’t being followed.
Staff will also be listening to visitors’ feedback throughout the summer to decide whether this becomes a permanent arrangement.
Visiting hours at Worcester Cathedral are from 10am to 5pm on Monday to Saturday, and from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday.
