TAKE a look inside a new Nepalese restaurant ahead of its official opening.

Elgar Coffee Shop in Reindeer Court has been a staple part of the city centre for just over two decades.

Mustafa Gocman, who was the previous owner, said he is very pleased about the Nepalese influence the restaurant will bring to the city centre.

Mr Gocman said: "It is a beautiful 16th-century building.

"I always thought about opening a restaurant in the evening but we used to do some evening events once a month or once every few months."

But Mr Gocman's main focus was serving food during the day.

"I am really pleased for them, I am sure it will do very well," he added.

The cafe is best known for its Turkish-style teas and cakes, but pictures reveal what the venue looks like under its new management.

Owner Raj Kunwar hopes to bring a new lease of life to the cafe by plating up Nepalese food in the evenings between 4.30pm to 10pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

The cafe has been running as normal throughout the week - but the new Nepalese restaurant has not yet officially opened.

However, customers have been taking advantage of a soft launch.

The official opening date has not yet been confirmed but the owners are expecting it to be towards the end of July.

Mr Kunwar, who is from Nepal, already has experience in running curry houses in Malvern called The Everest Eatery and Yak N Yeti.

He said they are adding Nepalese food to the menu due to popular demand from customers.

Mr Kunwar said: "Our customers asked us to open a restaurant in Worcester. This restaurant comes after high demand.

"We haven't opened officially yet."

The restaurant has been known for its Turkish food for the past 21 years.

Mr Kunwar said: "During the day we will still serve Turkish food and it will be the same as what people are used to."

Head chef Durga Kumal said he wants to start introducing a new type of Indian and Nepalese food to the people of Worcester.
