An ICONIC rollercoaster has been given a new name ahead of the launch of a world’s first experience at a theme park an hour from Worcester.
Drayton Manor has announced that guests will soon be able to enjoy the first-ever stand-up rollercoaster rave as part of its Summer Nights festival.
To mark the occasion, the Tamworth theme park has renamed its legendary coaster Shockwave.
It will now be known as ShockRAVE.
Jamie Turner, marketing director at Drayton Manor Resort, said: “The start of the festival season is a key summer milestone, so we wanted to help guests celebrate in style by boarding the world’s first roller coaster rave – ShockRAVE!
“Renaming one of our most iconic rides and bringing the rave experience to the roller coaster was no mean feat, but the team did a fantastic job at creating the ultimate party experience – from a queue-rave while waiting to board, to club classics blasting throughout the ride.
“The party marks the start of our new Summer Nights line-up, featuring live acts every weekend across July and August. We’re excited to launch our amazing schedule this Saturday and invite everyone to come along – you won’t want to miss it!”
The Summer Nights festival gets underway on Saturday, July 1, and will run every weekend until the end of August.
ShockRAVE will see passengers reach speeds of 53mph as they navigate corkscrews, loops and bends to the soundtrack of banging beats.
Alongside the rides will be a packed schedule of live music, including tribute acts for fan-favourites such as Abba, Little Mix, Take That and Taylor Swift.
Music will begin each day of the festival at 6pm, with the park’s most popular rides staying open until 9pm on Saturdays.
Tickets for Summer Nights start from £20, with discounts for frontline workers with Blue Light Cards.
