A NURSE has been nominated for a top award at the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards for 2023.
Sue Sharp, of St Richard's Hospice, has been nominated for The Good Nurse Award, which looks to commend healthcare professionals who demonstrate outstanding levels of commitment to patient care.
She is a secondary breast cancer nurse specialist who splits her time between Worcestershire Royal Hospital and St Richards Hospice.
Her nominator is a patient who has been treated by cared for by Sue, who highlighted her for going "above and beyond for her patients."
They said: "Without Sue, I would've been lost following my diagnosis - she helps me make sense of it all.
"She will spend hours talking to her patients to make sure that they understand the facts and gives them the emotional support that they need.
"She helps her patients live as normal a life as possible when diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.
"Sue allows people to get on with their lives and makes sure that the diagnosis that they have has as minimal impact as possible on their everyday life."

Julie Reece, head of community nursing at St Richard’s Hospice, said how proud the organisation is of Sue.
She said: “Sue is an exceptional nurse whose expert knowledge of breast cancer and caring, compassionate nature enables her to provide the very best support to her patients and their families.
“Sue goes above and beyond to ensure the people she cares for never feel alone with their diagnosis. She is there to support them on every step of their journey.
“We are proud to work alongside such a kind, dedicated nurse who is a much-loved member of our incredible hospice team.”
Entrants for The Good Nurse Award can be from any healthcare profession and can work anywhere, from community care to surgical theatres.
The awards are in partnership with the University of Worcester and seek to shine a light on the health and social care workers in Worcestershire who go the extra mile.
The 2023 awards will culminate in a black-tie dinner for all the finalists at the Abbey Hotel in Malvern on Thursday, September 14, where the winners will be announced.
