FESTIVAL goers erupted into applause as a Worcester man got on one knee during Elton John's Glastonbury performance.
Oliver Carter, age 28, proposed to girlfriend Lorna Mattok as Elton sang Your Song on Sunday night (June 25).
Watching at home, his family were left "gobsmacked" as they said he is typically a private person but chose to do it in the middle of one of the festival's biggest crowds.
Mr Carter planned to propose to his 24-year-old long-term girlfriend for a while but said Elton John singing Your Song felt like the right moment.
And Miss Mattok felt the same, immediately saying yes.
His mum Amanda Carter, from Hallow, said the family had no idea their son was planning to pop the question at Glastonbury.
Ms Carter said: "My son is such a private person so it was a big shock to us but I know he was planning to propose for a while.
"I couldn't believe it, it was a surprise for all of us.
"It was a shock.
"We knew he was going to propose at some stage but he is such a private person and this was so out of character and he could not have done it in a more public place.
"He said he was shaking.
"He was looking around for a kind stranger in the crowd to film it, just before he did it he asked a girl to film the whole thing for him.
"She [Lorna] is a beautiful girl, it's like having another daughter.
"She couldn't stop crying.
"We were gobsmacked, they put a photo of her holding her ring into the group chat.
"It was amazing.
"The world is so full of bad news at the moment, so we wanted to share some positive news.

Mr Carter and Miss Mattok have been dating for three years after meeting at work.
"They worked part-time at the Apple Store in Leeds while they were at university.
"They were friends for a very long time before they got together.
"One night they just got chatting and the rest is history.
"He said proposing would be a brilliant end to the night, he likes that song and he was hoping and praying that he would sing that song.
"He likes Elton John and loves that song - but he said he knew it was the right moment."
