Worcester residents who have been without water should start seeing their supply restored.

But Severn Trent is warning that at this stage, the supply may be intermittent and bottled water has been handed to people affected.

The company has been working to fix a leak since Wednesday - a complex job that has seen a section of Barbourne Road closed causing traffic chaos in the city.

Work is ongoing at the site, with water currently being pumped out of a huge hole in the road.

Several large water tankers are on site to take the water away.

“Our teams are working hard on the repair,” a spokesperson for Severn Trent said.

“We’re confident at this stage in the repair, you should now start to see your supply being restored, however it may be intermittent.

“A section of Barbourne Road will remain closed whilst we continue with the repair, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption this is causing.

“As our teams are still working hard to get this resolved, we really do understand how much of an impact this is having and as soon as we know more information, we’ll update this page to keep you fully informed.

“We appreciate your patience whilst this is ongoing.”

An engineer working in Barbourne Road said he was hopeful Severn Trent’s work at the site would be completed today as the leak itself has been located and fixed.

But it is unclear at the moment how long it will take to reopen the road.

Worcestershire Highways said a Severn Trent contractor had been assessing the damage.

“Full carriageway requires planing off and resurfacing, including adjoining junction, kerbs and some footway repairs,” they said.

“We’ll advise completion date when known.”

Yesterday, Severn Trent said the road is likely to remain closed for several days while repairs take place.

Residents have been putting up with traffic chaos since the road was closed, with some drivers even going the wrong way up one-way streets, despite the presence of no entry signs.

Police have been asked to carry out enforcement and diversion signs have also been improved after gridlock on narrow streets around Barbourne Road.
