AN update has been provided after a water main burst on a busy city road.

Barbourne Road remains shut after a pipe burst, sending water pouring out across the street.

Severn Trent staff have been working to resolve the issue throughout the night, but it appears the road will stay closed for some time yet.

A spokesperson for the water company said: “We’re really sorry to anyone affected by the burst pipe on Barbourne Road in Worcester.

“Our teams have been working hard throughout the night and this morning to isolate the burst, and will start the repair once that has been completed.

As well as tankers on site injecting water into the pipes where needed, we’re also looking at other ways to move water around the network to get customers back on supply as soon as possible."

They added: "To keep our teams and everyone safe, a section of Barbourne Road will be closed, and we're really sorry for the disruption this will cause.

“Again, we’re really sorry for the disruption and supply issues caused by this burst.

"We’d like to reassure everyone that it’s our priority to get everyone back on supply, and the road re-opened as soon as possible.”

Bus services are being diverted as a result of the road closure, First Worcester has confirmed.

The 144, 38 and 32S services are all affected.

These buses will divert onto Coombs Road, over the roundabout onto Billford Road, using Rainbow Hill into the city, with the normal route resuming from the Bus Station through to St Peters.

Meanwhile, Worcestershire County Council is urging motorists to find alternative routes.

Depending on where they are heading, drivers are advised to use either Holt Fleet bridge/A443/Hylton Road, Bilford Road, Blackpole Road or routes via Warndon.

There is currently pedestrian and cycle access past the site but the council has recommended avoiding the area entirely as this may change.
