A group of Worcestershire schools were one of the first organisations to help support refugees from Ukraine after driving to the border of the war-torn country last year.

Three members of staff from the RGS Worcester community delivered aid to the border towns of Dorohoi and Siret in North East Romania in May 2022.

It came after the RGS schools raised £10,000 to help the Ukraine Appeal. They also offered places to 11 children who fled the fighting in Ukraine and came to Worcestershire.

The charity Star of Hope Foundation has now revealed that the RGS schools were "one of the first" to help kickstart their aid work.

President of the charity, Aurora Vatananiuc, said: “Thank you, you [RGS schools] were one of the first contributors to help the refugees from Ukraine in Romania.

"You provided kitchen equipment and food to help the Ukrainians who have been hosted in our centre.

"Today we are still active at the border, there are still around 2,000 refugees passing the border of Siret for get help every week."

Steve Bradley, Keith Breese, and Paul Green undertook the 1,750-mile journey to handover essential supplies and witness the transformative impact of their efforts on the ground. PJ Nicholls Ltd provided a vehicle for the trip.

The Star Hope Foundation continue to support the refugees who are forced to cross the border due to the ongoing war. They currently provide essential assistance to 40 child refugees residing in their centres in Dorohoi and Suceava.

This includes accommodation, food, hygiene items, transportation, educational services for children, psychological support, medical intervention, medication, assistance in job placement and integration into work.

The RGS Schools continue to support the pupils from Ukraine living in Worcestershire. One of the pupils left last week to reunite with her family in Germany, 10 pupils remain at the schools.
