A WEBSITE error has led to confusion surrounding picnics being allowed at Worcester Racecourse's Ladies' Day event.

Karen Cope, of Birmingham, booked 70 tickets for this Ladies' Day, under the assumption the guests could bring their own picnics to enjoy.

She said as she bought the tickets she saw a notice saying guests were allowed to bring their own picnics.

Pleased the group would be able to bring their own refreshments, she was later dismayed to find the original notice had been replaced by a message saying picnics were not allowed.

Mrs Cope said: "They advertised that picnics were allowed on their website for Ladies' Day earlier this year.

"I am worried that the event will be a flash point for lots of angry racegoers because they've changed their policy after tickets were purchased."

She happened to take a screenshot of the message when she booked on Saturday, April 8.

The original post read: "We welcome picnics at selected dates within our Centre Course" with Saturday, June 3 Leadies' Day clearly listed

Another screenshot taken by another guest on Friday, May 26, also showed that the message was still displayed online.

This message has since been replaced with: "No picnics are allowed on site. Alcohol is also not permitted to be brought into the racecourse. There are a range of outlets across the racecourse where you can buy a wider variety of delicious food and drink."

Mrs Cope said: "It all seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

"It is going to be a really hot day and many of the ladies that are coming with me have special diets.

"They cannot even bring soft drinks into the racecourse which I think is a real shame.

"With the cost of living crisis hitting everyone, taking your own picnic is an affordable way to enjoy the day of racing for many people."

Worcester Racecourse has confirmed it was a mistake and the message was never supposed to include Ladies' Day.

Michael Thomas, general manager at Worcester Racecourse, said following the confusion, a decision has been made to allow picnics at the racecourse.

He said: "We do apologise for the confusion. The people have spoken and we have listened, so picnics will now be allowed in the centre enclosure.

"We agree that things are tough for people at the moment so if this helps our attendees we are happy to allow picnics.

"Alcohol has not been allowed to be brought into the centre enclosure for a long time now and this rule will still remain."
