THOUSANDS arrived to enjoy Pershore's yearly carnival, which had people with water pistols and inflatables.

People far and wide flocked to watch Pershore Carnival today (Monday).

This year's theme was ‘Summer Holidays’, and several floats followed suit being decorated inspired by scorching weather and beaches.

He said: "Lots of people have come here, I would say three, four thousand - the school has put on their floats, the town council put on a little float, and everyone is enjoying themselves.

"We have this wonderful park which really lends itself.

"The carnival is like a tradition, and like all traditions, it's like a roller costa.

"You go up, and then it starts going down again, but we are back on the up, so we have to keep the tradition going, and we will start planning for next year's carnival tomorrow (Tuesday)."

The procession started at Pershore Market at noon and made its way through Broad Street and other streets in the town, passing Pershore Abbey and St Andrew's Church and finishing at Abbey Park.

Pershore Carnival has been held in the past on the first Bank Holiday of May, but this year falls on the last Bank Holiday of the month.

The event fundraises for local charities, which can apply to receive a portion of the profits made on the day.
