IT IS all hands on deck for butchers as the hottest day of the year and the upcoming bank holiday are expected to boost trade.
Butchers have been busy preparing extra sausages, burgers and kebabs as they expect the heat to increase the number of customers buying meat for a barbecue over the bank holiday.
Temperatures have also been predicted to reach highs of 20C in Worcester on Thursday (May 25) which could be the hottest day of the year so far.
Pippa Champken, manager at Knightwick Butchers on Bromyard Road, near Worcester, said: "We are already preparing for a hot weekend, especially during bank holidays.
"People love a barbecue on bank holiday come rain or shine."
The family-led business has been in Knightwick for 30 years and the staff know how to handle the hot weather.
"We cut up all of our animals here so we rarely run out we just make extra sausages, burgers and kebabs.
"Those are our best sellers during the hot weather.
"It is all hands on deck at the moment as we are getting ready for the weekend.
"Last Saturday was really busy, but we have someone who is constantly making kebabs.
"We get quite a lot of holidaymakers who pre-order meat from us and then take it to their holiday home in Herefordshire."
Popular butchers H Dayus. The Master Butcher in St John's is also expecting to see more customers thanks to the hot weather.
Craig Saunders, who has been the owner for the past 18 years, said: "On a hot bank holiday weekend we tend to make more barbecue packs.
"People will buy more sausages and burgers.
"We are expecting to sell out this weekend.
"We sell out on Saturday most of the time which is why we close earlier.
"But people who shop here regularly know to book their order online.
"On a hot bank holiday day are going to be twice as busier than normal. We are expecting 50 per cent more trade than usual.
"We have already started to make more burgers so we're ready for the extra demand.
"We've made between 700-1,000 burgers for this weekend plus a few extra for Bank Holiday Monday."
