A MOVE to build 30 new homes in a village has been met with a wave of opposition from residents.
More than 50 objections have been made by villagers in Drakes Broughton near Pershore against a plan by Lone Star Land to add another 30 homes to the 110-home estate Sanctuary Housing has already built.
The plan would see the new homes built on fields between Sanctuary’s 110-home development known as The Orchards off Worcester Road and the village’s Stonebow Road, close to St Barnabas CE First and Middle School.

The new homes would be accessed by an extension of an existing road through the Sanctuary development which is served by a main entrance off the main Worcester Road.
Objectors said the new homes would put further strain on the village’s services and said Drakes Broughton had seen ‘more than its fair share’ of housebuilding in recent years.
One objector, Corinna Wilcox of Walcot Lane, said: “Our village has done enough to satisfy the rural development plan in my opinion.
“This project would destroy a pretty piece of land rich in wildlife. Not to mention further strain on the infrastructure of our village.
“More cars parked at the shops. More cars on the roads.”

Another objector, Nathan Godwin of Stonebow Road, said: “The village has grown dramatically in size during recent years, with no additional essential facilities provided to cope with the increased demand.
“The previous landowners were all about doing things for the community and this land could be used to do just that given the chance.”
Drakes Broughton Parish Council also came out against the plan saying: “The land is outside the boundary of the neighbourhood plan and abuts the new Sanctuary Housing development which is not even complete yet and has several homes still for sale.
“This proposal is unsustainable continuing development in and around the village.”
A controversial plan for 12 homes next to Drakes Broughton Village Hall has also returned again after being turned down a combined four times by council planners and government planning inspectors in the last five years.
However, the land has now been included as a potential site for homes in the ongoing and much-delayed review of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) which sets out where tens of thousands of homes will be built around the county in the next two decades.
This article was corrected to state that Lone Star Land is the applicant for the 30-home plan and not Sanctuary Housing.
Sanctuary Housing is the developer for the neighbouring 110-home development.
