TWO students from RGS Worcester Sixth-Form will perform on the national stage next year after successes at the West Midlands Powerlifting Championships in Easter.
Joshua Fisher and Oskar Matysiak showcased their impressive powerlifting skills, taking the top spots in their respective age categories to qualify for next year's National Championships.
Matysiak achieved an impressive third overall standing in his 83kg Sub Junior category, achieving two Personal Best lifts in the process. His bench press weighed in at 122.5kg, while his deadlift hit 220kg – a personal best – and his squat weighed in at 182.5kg, also a personal best.
Fisher also won his weight category in a higher weight division, qualifying him for the Nationals as well. His bench press weighed in at 122.5kg, a deadlift of 230kg – a Personal Best and a squat at 205kg.
A statement on the RGS website read: "In addition to training regularly in the RGS fitness suite, Josh and Oskar also work on their strength and fitness outside School.
"They are also both keen and able Rugby players and look forward to using their skills and strength to benefit RGS Rugby when the season resumes in September.
"The RGS community is extremely proud of the achievements of Josh and Oskar. Their success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in their sport.
"Their achievements demonstrate the diverse range of talents and interests among RGS pupils, and we congratulate them on their impressive accomplishments."
