SIX fire crews rushed to the M5 southbound near Droitwich after a double-decker bus and car crashed.

One person was injured and assessed by paramedics following the crash between junctions 4a (Bromsgrove) and 5 (Droitwich Spa).

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFR) said no one was trapped in the two vehicles.

Fire crews made the car and bus safe.

One lane of the motorway was closed for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon (May 14), and a second lane was closed briefly while emergency services worked at the scene.

National Highways West Midlands said there were delays of 20 minutes and about two miles of congestion at the time.

An HWFR spokesperson said: "Six Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – from Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich, Leominster, Worcester and Evesham Fire Stations – were called at 11.49am on May 14 to a road traffic collision on the M5 Southbound between junctions 4A and 5.

"The incident involved a double-decker bus and a car.

"No persons were trapped, and both vehicles, which were made safe by fire service personnel, were on all four wheels.

"One casualty was handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police and highways.

"The incident was marked as closed at 12.33pm."
