A retro gaming bar has taken the next step in making a move to a bigger venue by submitting a planning application to the council.

The owners of Retroids Arcade Bar, which is currently based in New Street in Worcester, are looking to make the move to nearby College Street and have now asked for planning from Worcester City Council to make the dream a reality.

If plans are given the green light, the bar, which is filled with classic arcade and retro gaming machines and offers a range of craft beers and ciders, would move to a space opposite Worcester Cathedral, in a unit previously home to Worcester Cycle Centre and roughly triple the size of its current space.

The proposed opening hours are 10am to 7pm between Monday and Wednesday, 10am to midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 5pm every Sunday.

A statement included with the application said: “The application proposes a change of use of a currently vacant retail unit in the city centre, a location where there is policy support for proposals that will help support the local economy and the centre’s viability and vitality. This is also a fundamental government objective.

“By definition, the site is located in a town centre location which is well served by multiple forms of public transport and easily accessible by walking and cycling.

“The proposal will not require any new building works or extensions and will only require internal alterations.”

The move to College Street comes after plans to open around the corner to Pump Street fell through at the last minute almost a year ago.

Last summer, after year-long work, Retroids revealed plans to move into one of the several empty units in Pump Street, and despite the move receiving the backing of Worcester City Council, it later fell apart because of ‘reasons beyond their control.’

Retroids’ owners had got the ball rolling on the move at the start of the year applying to the city council for a licence to sell alcohol between 11am and midnight from its proposed new venue in College Street.
