A BARRISTER told a judge he had been sacked by a defendant.

But Adam Vials, who appeared on videolink to Worcester Crown Court, said he did in fact want Jaspreet Dhaliwa to defend him.

The confusing scenes played out at a Worcester Crown Court in front of Judge Martin Jackson. 

Adam Vials, of no fixed abode but previously of Malvern and Worcester, attended a plea and trial preparation hearing on videolink from HMP Hewell. 

Vials faces two counts of acting in breach of a restraining order.

The prosecution alleges the offences took place between March 21 and April 7 this year. 

Vials is alleged to have made contact with the victim when the restraining order prohibited him from doing so.

But at the start of the hearing Jaspreet Dhaliwal told the court that following a conference with Vials: "He doesn't want to be represented by myself."

Vials then told the court: "That's not the case. 

"What I ask is he can represent me as I want to be represented."

Mr Dhaliwal repeated he still could not represent the defendant after the judge asked him if hearing what Vials has said in the courtroom had changed his position. 

Judge Jackson told Vials he would adjourn the case as it would be unfair to take pleas from him before Vials had received legal advice. 

Vials was told the next hearing of the case would take place at the court on May 16.
