A RIVERSIDE path has reopened after police investigate an alleged attempted murder of a woman.

Police had taped off a section of Kleve Walk after a woman was attacked in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

Officers were investigating after arresting a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

They taped off a section of the riverside path between Diglis Parade and Copenhagen Street car park.

The cordon was lifted at just before 4pm with the area busy with walkers enjoying the Bank Holiday and coronation weekend.

A 72-year-old woman remains in a critical condition after being stabbed multiple times along the riverside in Worcester.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds shortly after 2am along the banks of the River Severn, near Quay Street, and has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

A 56-year-old male is in custody on suspicion of attempted murder and the victim is in a critical condition.

Extra officers are patrolling the area and were stationed at either end of the cordon while investigations were on going.

Superintendent Rebecca Love said there was no ongoing risk to people.

“We understand the concerning nature of this incident and have officers in the area both to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the local community.

“Officers responded to the incident very quickly and apprehended a man. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

"Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are treating this as an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the wider public.

“We are aware this location is extremely popular and want people to be able to visit it and feel safe.

"Therefore you will see an increase in police presence but I can reassure you there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
