A MAN caught speeding twice on the same stretch of city road within an hour has managed to avoid being banned.
Liam Glasgow, of Dragonfly Green, Worcester, apologised to magistrates when he appeared in front of them on Friday, (May 5).
Glasgow made a stationary declaration telling the court the first he heard of the offence was when he received a letter from the DVLA telling him he had been disqualified.
After making the declaration the two offences of speeding were put to Glasgow by the court clerk, with the 44-year-old admitting both.
Magistrates heard Glasgow travelled in his Ford on the A4440 Nunnery Way at a speed of 48mph in a 40mph zone at 10.30am on August 16 last year.
Glasgow then, at 11.12am, was caught speeding on the same road this time at a speed of 55mph.
When the clerk asked if there was anything he wanted to say he replied: “I apologise.
“I can’t remember that far back – I was going slightly over, again I apologise.”
Magistrates heard that, prior to the offence, Glasgow had a clean driving licence.
The defendant told them, after receiving the letter informing him he was banned, he had been unable to work due to not being able to drive.
Following their deliberations chairman of the bench, Simon Egerton, told Glasgow he would be receiving three points for each offence, meaning in total the defendant would now have six points and not be banned as a totter.
Glasgow was fined £292 and told to pay costs of £90 and victim surcharge of £117.
Glasgow offered to pay the total, £499, at a rate of £30 a week – an offer which was accepted by the magistrates.
Glasgow was told to contact the DVLA to check their records of the case had been updated before getting behind the wheel.
