CONSERVATIVES remain the biggest political party in the district, but this year's 2023 elections have seen a rise in other political parties.
There were huge wins for the Conservative party which remains a stronghold in the area with 29 out of 43 seats won.
Tory Gregory Wilkins, 21, become one of Wychavon’s youngest councillors having been elected in Droitwich South West ward.
Labour welcomed their first seat in years after Mary Tasker was elected to represent Evesham North.
The party now has one seat in Wychavon.
She will be sharing the ward alongside Conservative councillor Charlie Homer.
The second largest party is still the Liberal Democrats which had finished with seats in Bowbrook, Pinvin, Fladbury and Drakes Broughton and three in Pershore.
Within Pershore, Dan Boatright, Jodi Arnold and Charles Tucker got a stronghold in the area.
Lib Dems Dan Boatright received 1,763 votes within Pershore and said he has been told it could be the highest number of votes a Wychavon councillor has received.
Cllr Boatright said: “I am very humble and a bit surprised.
“I never got into politics for a popularity contest and wanted residents to get what they need.
“It is nice to know the work we put in is appreciated.
“It is a great feeling.”
It was also a great day for the Greens who gained a stronger foothold in the district by winning four new seats.
They also defeated the Conservative district council chair Alex Sinton who oversaw Droitwich East Ward.
Voters across Wychavon went to the polls yesterday (May 4) to choose who they would like to form their district council.
This morning (Friday) at 10am the count started at Pershore Leisure Centre.
This year a total of 111 candidates were contesting for the 43 seats available on the Wychavon District Council.
The seats for this year were down from the 45 in 2019 because of boundary changes.
