A NEW plan to build more than 60 homes in a village alongside a potential new primary school has been met with criticism by villagers.

The latest application in Crowle near Worcester would see a further 62 homes built in the village by developer Gleeson Land but some residents have raised concerns about the extra traffic the housebuilding would create.

Several objections have been made against the plan, including Boyd Douglas-Davies of Laxton Close in Crowle, who said he was concerned by the extra cars in the village if the homes were built.

“The increased traffic is going to create unacceptable congestion, vehicles idling whilst waiting to proceed and pollution,” his objection said.

“Froxmere Road is used by many going to and from the village school. Their safety is compromised by this additional traffic.”

At the moment, the developer plans to use almost ten of the 46 acres it owns off the village’s Froxmere Road to build the homes and has earmarked other parts of the land for a new primary school and community orchards or allotments.

An objection from a resident in Comice Grove in Crowle called the plan “poorly thought-out.”

“It is already busy down Froxmere Road [and] 65 more homes would cause even more traffic, plus with more homes having to have more than one car, where would they all park?

“We would much prefer fields, wildlife and safer roads than an extra 65 homes.”

Another objector, Sharon Brett of Froxmere Road, said the village was being “targeted” for more housing outside its own boundary and a decision was being left in the hands of “very overworked” council planners guided by “national priorities.”

“I am very doubtful that any comments made by residents, even if totally valid will make the slightest bit of difference to the eventual outcome,” she said.

Last year, social housing provider Platform Housing had its plan to build 12 homes on the opposite of Froxmere Road backed by the government’s planning inspector months after being rejected by council planners and despite villagers raising more than 100 objections.

Spitfire Homes want to build 30 homes on land less than half a mile away from Froxmere Road off the village’s Church Road with a decision still to be made by council planners and Piper Homes wants to build 62 homes on land on the opposite of Church Road.
