ISSUES surrounding vandalism at a historic building in Droitwich have led to security measures being put in place.

The Raven Hotel has been subjected to numerous types of vandalism, including graffitistructural damages and people running on its roof.

The new developer, Inroka, has responded to this by adding measures to protect the building and the vandals entering it.

Inroka has blocked off entry points to the building and removed the only route to the roof, which was through the fire exit.

CCTV and additional signage to warn people of the dangers of entering the site have also been put up.

Despite the vandalism, the listed part of the building remains undamaged and unweathered.

The deteriorating building on St Andrew's Street has parts which date back to the 16th century and has been empty since 2010.

Rajinder Singh, who is overseeing the new development, said: "We will be installing further security measures, including CCTV and additional signage to warn people of the dangers of entering the site.

"We take full responsibility for The Raven and so will also ensure the site is kept as tidy as possible going forwards and the listed building part continues to be protected.

"Inroka and our partners are fully committed to the development and are extremely excited about the future of The Raven."

Plans for The Raven Hotel's transformation have received the green light and the new plans would mean the existing vandalised area would be knocked down.

The demolition of the vandalised area is scheduled for this year but a date has not yet been confirmed.

Wychavon District Council’s planning committee backed plans to demolish the modern extensions to the listed building to make way for 48 new homes and flats on July 21, 2022.

A gin bar and brine baths would also be created as part of the project.

Speaking on the rebirth of the Brine Baths in Droitwich, chair of Droitwich Town Council, Bob Brooks, said: "I am excited that the Brine Baths will be installed and look forward to those plans being developed by Save Our Brine Baths.

"I hope it will help bring tourism and trade into the town."
