THE heartbroken owner of a cat that was mauled to death by a dog has spoken of her "devastation" and called for action.

A bull mastiff is reported to have killed two cats in the last three days in the Warndon area.

Valerie Gormley, of Brookethorpe Close, said her cat was killed by the out-of-control dog on Sunday (April 23).

She said: "My cat had gone out into the front garden and a young girl was walking this dog.

"It noticed the cat and just pulled the girl along with it, she had no control at all.

"It took four people to get the dog to release my cat. I was devastated.

"My granddaughter took him to the vet, and we found out he was 15 years old which we did not know before.

"I do not blame the dog, but the owners need to muzzle it. If it was kept on a tight, short lead this could have been prevented."

She became aware the same dog had killed another cat after hearing a commotion outside her house.

"My bedroom window overlooks the road and on Friday I heard someone outside shouting 'Where is he?'.

"The next thing I knew it was running out into the road and the owner was following it.

"When I asked what was going on I was told it had just killed a cat and I was terrified it was Sponge.

"The dog is kept in a flat and there is netting around the balcony to keep it in.

"Something needs to be done about it."

West Mercia Police said they are dealing with the offences that have been reported.

Inspector Tanya Beckett said: "West Mercia are aware and is dealing with offences reported with the support of the community."

An anonymous reader contacted also contacted Worcester News to raise their concern over the reports.

They said: "Over the weekend a Mastiff-type dog has been allowed by its owner to maul two cats. One on Friday and then once again on Sunday.

"This dog is completely out of control.

"The residents of the area involved are frightened to allow the pets and children out into the street.

"These cats are not disposable; they are someone's family."
