Dozens of tractors including some vintage models passed through a Worcestershire town centre in convoy.

A tractor run took place on Saturday (April 22) and saw almost 50 farm vehicles make their way through Upton Upon Severn.

The convoy had set off from Malvern Wells and after passing through Upton, returned via Castlemorton and Tunnel Hill.

Drivers also stopped for lunch at the Hunters Inn, near Tewkesbury.

The event raised hundreds of pounds for Dementia UK, with the total nearing £800 at the latest count.

Almost £200 was raised from buckets in Upton town centre alone.

John Clifford, who helped to organise the tractor run, said: “We couldn’t believe how many people had come out to greet us.

“The day couldn’t have gone better - there was some concern that we wouldn’t have the weather but in the end it was a beautiful sunny afternoon.”

Mr Clifford, who said much of the credit for organising the event should go to Andy Tippin, said the cause is one close to both of their hearts.

“We’re members of the local group of the National Vintage Tractor & Engine Club (NVTEC) and we do a lot of work for charity,” he said.

“We wanted to do something for Dementia UK because we all know someone affected by dementia. It’s something we personally feel very strongly about.”

Vintage tractors dating back to the 1940s were on show on Saturday, as well as more modern vehicles.

The West Midlands Group of NVTEC is based in Hanley Swan and holds its meetings at the village hall on the third Monday of the month.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease was the leading cause of death in England and Wales in 2022, with 65,967 deaths registered, up from 61,250 in 2021.

Right now in the UK, more than 900,000 people are estimated to be living with the condition.

Dementia UK is a charity that provides specialist nurses to families affected by dementia.
