Westlife's oldest fan gets facetimed for 101st birthday

We reported how Droitwich's own Uptown Girl Edna Warner turned 101 on Saturday, and her only wish was to get a special message from her idols on her birthday.

Mrs Warner said she had loved Westlife ever since she could remember and described herself as a "big fan".

The sheer determination of Worcester News readers helped make Mrs Warner's dreams a reality.

After the plea was shared, a Worcester News reader got in touch with a contact for Nicky Byrne.

Edna was thrilled received not only a birthday message but also a one-to-one Facetime conversation with Nicky Byrne.

On Facetime, she told Nicky how excited she was and made him laugh with her advice on how he could live to 101.

On the video call, she said: "Just behave yourself - and do as you're told."

Nicky jokingly added: "So, I just need to behave myself?

"Not eat healthy or anything - just behave myself.

"That is some really good advice."

Nicky also invited her to their next concert in July in Henley or Cardiff because the band would love to see her.

In a bid to make their resident's dreams come true, Woodland View care home was trying to contact the group in every way possible. 

In one case, a carer was banned from several Westlife Facebook groups because she was spamming them to see if they would visit Mrs Warner.

Lisa Dews, home manager, said: "Edna had an amazing day.

"Also, to anyone that’s been following our appeal to Westlife to send her a video message as she is their biggest fan!

"Nicky Byrne from the band sent her a video message, and then after that, he FaceTimed her for a chat which she was over the moon with.

"You have all helped make her birthday one to remember."

Mrs Warner - better known as Noddy because she likes to nod off while watching TV - has been a Woodland View care home resident for the past year.

She described herself as never having a bucket list but always wanting to live life to the fullest.

Woodland View care home has also thanked everyone who sent Edna a card on her birthday after the home asked the Droitwich community to send in their birthday wishes.
