A FAMILY who runs one of the oldest pubs in Droitwich will say last orders for the final time this year.

The owners of the Old Cock Inn on Friar Street, Droitwich, said they would be moving on from their much-loved pub.

Claire and Nick Fellows have managed the 300-year-old pub for five and a half years.

Mrs Fellows said the decision to move on was difficult, but the family has struggled this year.

"Well, the time has come for us to leave our beautiful pub," she said.

"We had a fantastic time over the last five and a half years, meeting some wonderful people, a lot of who we are very privileged to call friends.

"We have had an amazing team working for us over that time too.

"Thank you to each and every one of you, you all know who you are.

"It has been fantastic, and we are very sad to leave you all.

"I am not going to lie, this last year or so has been a struggle, and this decision hasn't come easily.

"It is our choice, but now it's time a chance to get sorted, some time to rebuild and recharge our batteries."

The family's final day will be September 20 because they must give Marston six months' notice.

Mrs Fellows added: "We wanted to let everyone know before the Chinese whispers get going.

"We are not going far and will see many of you around Droitwich, we may even have a pint or two in the pub!

"We wish the new retailers all the luck in the world in keeping the pub alive."

"Thanks for everything, guys, you have all been amazing."

The Old Cock Inn received its first licence in 1712 and since has been a popular drinking hot spot.

It has seen its fair share of famous faces, including TV entertainers Larry Grayson and Adrian Edmondson and singers Michael Ball and Clyde Spencer from the Drifters.

In recent weeks, the pub was given a five-star rating for the third time, which Mrs Fellows was delighted with.

At the time, she said: "It is great news that we have been able to continue our high standards here at the pub.

"Some pubs and restaurants really struggle to get this rating, so we are really happy to still have this."
