A HISTORIC 'romantic ruin' and grounds is open for an 'eggs-hilirarting' family adventure for chocolate hunting explorers this Easter.

Witley Court in Great Witley, near Worcester, is hosting an Easter Adventure Quest between Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 16.

A spokesperson for English Heritage described the event as a 'fun-filled outdoor explorer quest in the grounds of a breathtaking ruin'.

The Easter Adventure Quest is on every day of the school holidays and with eggs, chocolate and fun.

Matt Bulford, Head of Historic Properties at English Heritage’s Witley Court said: “This Easter Holiday visitors to Witley Court can welcome Spring in with some outdoor fun with the whole family. Follow the quest to discover the site’s secrets - all while on a challenge to win a chocolate reward."

Tickets can be booked online at https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/easter/

The quest costs £2, which visitors can pay when you arrive at the site. This is in addition to the normal ticket price.

Built in the 17th century and remodelled in Victorian times, disaster struck in 1937 when a fire ripped through the Italianate building.

In the 1890s fashionable society flocked to Witley Court, including one frequent royal visitor, the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.

The gardens are famous for the spectacular Perseus and Andromeda fountain.
