AN RGS Worcester student will represent her country in the coming months after being selected for the England Hockey Under-23 squad.
Alice Atkinson, in the Upper Sixth, has been selected at the age of eighteen having been training and playing for England Under 18s since 16.
Atkinson will now join the Under 23 squad participating in training camps and representing the squad at fixtures to continue her hockey development.
The talented individual joined RGS The Grange in Year One where she started playing Hockey and she currently plays for Stourport Hockey Club and represents RGS Worcester in the Hockey 1st team and Netball 1st team.
Atkinson is also a member of the RGS Athlete Development Programme (ADP) and is currently on the ‘Elite’ Pathway.
She admitted her nerves but overall is very happy to have been called-up.
“I was so excited to find out the news that I have been selected. I am a little nervous of course, but I can’t wait to continue my training and be part of the England squad," she said.
RGS Worcester Head of Hockey, Miss Leanne Bennett added: "This is fantastic news for Alice who has put in so much hard work to achieve this.
"Having seen Alice begin her Hockey career at RGS The Grange and flourish in both school and club National League Hockey over the years, we are incredibly proud of her achievements so far. She is a talented yet humble player, who always supports her team and her peers."
