VILLAGE houses have been routinely flooding for decades - but homeowners are struggling to get a water company to fix the issue.

Malvern Hills District councillor Daniel Walton said homes in the Lower Broadheath area have been regularly flooded, sometimes with sewage water, for decades.

The councillor said he has been trying to get Severn Trent to resolve the issue “for some time” to no avail.

Cllr Walton said: “To me, it’s highlighted the issues people have with communicating with these companies now.

“Everyone who lives in these homes has done all they can.

“I thought I could help and take on the case to help them but the communication channels open to talk to Severn Trent mean it’s very difficult to have an ongoing conversation about a serious case like this.”

Severn Trent apologised for the communication issue and said it was meeting with Cllr Walton.

Cllr Walton explained that Malvern Walk and Grange Lane are two particular areas that have been affected.

The issue on Grange Lane concerns a pipe in a resident’s home, which floods the property with sewage when it overflows due to drainage issues in the area.

Meanwhile, three homes on Malvern Walk have been regularly flooded for decades, he said.

“Surface water has nowhere to go after downpours and so the bottom floors of their homes flood after any large amount of rainfall.

“They are regularly overwhelmed.”

Severn Trent is planning to meet with councillor Walton this week to help tackle the issues.

The water company has also reminded people of the best way to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “We are continuing to work with colleagues from other organisations to find a resolution to this issue and are meeting with Cllr Walton on site next week.

"Any type of flooding can be distressing and unfortunately surface flooding issues such as this often aren’t straightforward to resolve.
