A POLICE station front counter was closed to the public because staff were taking part in 'mandatory training', a senior officer has revealed.

The doors of Worcester Police Station in Castle Street were closed and locked yesterday with a sign in the window advising the public that Kidderminster was the nearest counter.

A sign on the window of the station in Castle Street read: "Public Service Counter will be closed on: Thursday 16th March 2023. Your nearest Station providing a Public Service Counter is Kidderminster Police Station. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

However, a senior West Mercia officer said it was still possible for members of the public to contact staff at the police station in Worcester - and that 24 hour support is always available. 

Superintendent Damian Pettit said: “Front Counter Staff were taking part in a mandatory training session today. However, the Worcester Castle Street front counter remained open to the public where members of the public could speak to officers and staff within the station.

“We are committed to providing an effective and accessible front counter service to the public and this remains the case across six separate sites within the force area.

“There remains other means of contact, reporting and self-help which is accessible 24hrs a day. Our website can also be used to report incidents and concerns and submissions are monitored 24 hours a day, and responded to just as a call or visit to us would be. The website also contains useful frequently asked questions, crime prevention information and signposting to other agencies who may offer help and support.”
