THE 'sad' and 'distressing' death of a man on a motorway is not being treated as suspicious with the public praised for trying to revive him.

The M5 was closed at junction six (Worcester) both north and southbound yesterday morning (Wednesday) because of the death of the man.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police officers.

West Mercia also praised the actions of drivers and passengers who rushed to save his life.

Officers are speaking to those who witnessed the incident to offer them advice on support that is available.

West Mercia Police confirmed a person had died after closing the motorway due to a 'serious incident'.

Long delays were reported on the road network in and around Worcester near the motorway slip roads.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "After the incident on the M5 in Worcestershire yesterday morning (Wednesday, March 15) we can now confirm that, very sadly, a man died.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The man’s next of kin have now been informed and are being supported by our officers.

"We understand that for those that witnessed the incident it would have been incredibly distressing, and we have reached out to a number of people to let them know that support is available.

"We would also like to thank those that were caught in traffic delays whilst the emergency services responded to the incidents for their patience and understanding."
