EXCITED children expecting to receive a VR headset as a Christmas gift from their uncle were disappointed to open an Amazon box and discover dog food.

Matthew Duckett, now based in San Francisco, bought a £400 Meta Quest 2 VR headset through Amazon for his family in Peopleton, near Pershore.

On Christmas Day, the excited family opened the package and were shocked to find four tins of dog food instead of the headset.

Mr Duckett said his family initially thought it was a joke, however, Mr Duckett is still trying to get a refund or the correct present sent.

He said: "My sister Rachel thought it was a joke when she told me later in the day, but I was just as confused.

"I live abroad so it is hard for me to come home and see family.

"For Christmas, I wanted to spoil them all by getting them a VR headset that they can all use.

"Since Christmas Day, I have been back and forth constantly with Amazon over this refund."

Anthea Duckett, Mr Duckett's mother, said her grandchildren were very upset when they saw the dog food.

She said: "We were all very upset, especially my grandchildren Jack (14) and Florence (11).

"I was the only person who knew what the package was supposed to be so it was not at all what I was expecting when my family opened it."

Mr Duckett said since the mix-up, Amazon has been "ridiculous" and he is still waiting for his refund.

Matthew Duckett: "I ordered a Meta Quest 2 from Amazon which cost over £400, and the package arrived in Worcestershire a little before Christmas.

"After Christmas Day I called Amazon and there was no possible way for them to process a refund quickly so I had to order the product again for over £400.

"I was told the refund could not be processed until the tins of dog food were returned but here, we are in March still waiting for the refund.

"After trying throughout all of January, I asked them again where the refund was and I was just told that they had no information to tell me.

"I have been sent a form to sign which seemed to be lost in the matrix and I am just left wondering if I am ever going to get my money back."

Amazon has told Worcester News that Mr Duckett was refunded on Monday, March 6 and it can take three to five days to be processed.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We’ve contacted the customer directly and they’ve been refunded.

"We’re sorry that some customer experiences have fallen short of the high standards that we expect.

"We work hard to create a trustworthy shopping experience by protecting customers, selling partners and Amazon from abuse and we have systems in place to detect suspicious behaviour."
